Everybody Knows That It’s T-shirt Time

February 22, 2011

So what does t-shirt time mean you may ask yourself. T-shirt time has been made famous because of the hit show on

MTV,  “The Jersey Shore”. Mike “The Situation”has been coined with coming up with this phrase. Mike explains t-shirt time as the shirt before the shirt. Everyone likes to put on there full wardrobe before a night on the town, but when guests come over and everyone participates in their activities before they go out, a lot of people will start to sweat. Well, here is a solution, don’t put your going-out shirt on until your ready to walk out the door.

T-shirt time has caught on like a wildfire. Everyone across college campuses have been doing this. Right before T-shirt time, someone will usually yells out to everyone, “It’s T-shirt time!” Usually at this point in time, all of the guys will put on their going-out shirts. I don’t think there is a saying for girls, but I think it might be kind of weird if girls tried to put on a shirt before the shirt (that’s just my opinion).Girls usually show up with their full wardrobe anyways, so that eliminates that problem.  Most of the time, guys will be wearing a white t-shirt or some type of undershirt before they put on their going-out shirt.

T-shirt time is a process that can done in a few easy steps:

  • Take a shower (you have to be fresh when you go out)
  • Put your going-out clothes on minus your going out shirt and shoes (the shoes is just  a personal thing I do)
  • Take part in pre-going out activities such as watching T.V., playing video games, playing corn-hole and others.
  • As soon as it’s time to go out, someone has to yell out, “It’s t-shirt time!”
  • Put your deodorant on, then put your going out shirt on
  • After you have your going out shirt on and shoes, put some cologne on
  • Last step and probably most important, turn your swag on

These steps can be done through a variation of different ways. The steps don’t have to be in the same order as listed.

Another phrase that has been made popular because of the Jersey Shore cast is the phrase, “The cabs are here!” Usually what will happen is someone will look outside and see that their ride to wherever they are going is there and it’s time to leave. So, what will happen is someone will yell out, ” The cabs are here!” letting everyone know to finish up what they are doing because everyone will be leaving soon. I have been known to yell this out a few times and I have perfected this phrase. As soon as I notice that our ride has arrived I will then proceed to yell out, “The cabs are here!” in every room in the house. I usually will say it a few times just so everyone is aware.

T-shirt time will usually occur five minutes before the cabs are ready to pick everyone up. It’s hard to gauge what time the cabs will be there, so I will usually ball park the situation. It’s not uncommon where I’ve had to yell  “It’s t-shirt time!” right before I yell, “The cabs are here!” I have lost track of time and have dropped the ball a few times but it always works out in the end.

Don’t forget when you get out and you hear loud music playing and your not sure what to do, start fist pumping like there is no tomorrow.

For the record, girls can do t-shirt time, too. At my place we’ve been known to wear tank tops while we’re getting ready and hanging out before the cabs arrive. We don’t put the real shirt on until it’s time to go and/or cute boys show up. haha.

Carrie, statistics show, research has been done and surveys have been taken. It is physically impossible for women to do t-shirt time. I don’t make this stuff up Carrie. Plus you know I would never lye to you.

I’ve definitely done T-Shirt time with my friends. You don’t want to get make up, hair and various girl crap on your good shirt. You tank top it until you’re ready then T-Shirt time.
